Eulogies Flow for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Face a Security Hold.
Over a fortnight subsequent to the heartbreaking passing of esteemed film director Rob Reiner and his wife, photographer Michele Reiner, peers and loved ones are still paying respects to the pair.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Remembers His Director
Writing on social media, actor Cary Elwes, who rose to fame in Reiner's 1987 classic *The Princess Bride*, mentioned he just recently felt ready to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Enough time has gone by that I can at last articulate my loss into words," posted Elwes, saying that his first meeting with Reiner left him smitten. "As we began spending more time together I understood this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor posted behind-the-scenes footage from the production, remarking that he cannot recall "a single day without mirth".
"The movie is about affection, allegiance and giving. Things that Rob held dear. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He also paid tribute Michele Reiner, noting: "Claiming that they were a formidable pair would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I think of you." He concluded with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate piece, revered director Martin Scorsese also honored Reiner, whom he originally knew in the 1970s.
"Right away, I loved spending time with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was hilarious and sometimes acutely humorous, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese said.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the main character.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked seamlessly with his co-stars, and he grasped the personal struggle of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Court Proceedings: Autopsy Reports Sealed
In a new development, a Los Angeles judge ruled to block the release of the Reiners' autopsy reports, following a petition from the Los Angeles Police Department.
A legal directive issued a security hold on the files to prohibit the public release of "any investigative information, notes, reports or photos" connected to the probe.
The Medical Examiner's office had earlier stated their deaths were the consequence of homicide, with a record noting the cause as "multiple sharp force injuries".
Response and Criticism
In the wake of the killings, public figures offered different responses.
Former President Donald Trump posted on the matter, offering controversial claims that were met with immediate backlash by many public figures.
Podcaster Joe Rogan lent his perspective to the critics last week. Talking on his program, Rogan described the comments as "shocking" and suggested they showed a troubling absence of compassion.
Rogan finished by proposing that an aide should have acted when the choice to speak on the tragedy was made.
