The latest choice, however, is somewhat unexpected. It is "a billowy white," which Pantone calls a "soft and structural white."

Laurie Pressman, VP of the Pantone Color Institute, stated that it is "a key structural color … permitting all colors to be highlighted."

Well, Cloud Dancer sounds… seriously, white? Are they joking? Does white qualify as a real color?

What is the best way to characterize the hue of a cloud? Fresh snow? While people often think of white as a color, the entire spectrum is essentially a perception of light wavelengths. It appears in a set of colored pencils, so I'd argue the answer is yes.

If Pantone is out of touch is trickier to figure out. The company states, Cloud Dancer combines easily with other colors, provides a calm backdrop, declares simplicity, and radiates refined calm.

Feedback online, however, has not been as kind. Some commentators have declared Pantone of being completely "tone-deaf." Style expert Mandy Lee called it "a let-down." Others have compared it with subtle advocacy of controversial ideas seen in other media.

I see, one would hope they're happily ignorant that now is a sensitive time to be pointedly celebrating pure white... Therefore, how should I rarely near a fashion show incorporate this news in everyday routine? I recently coated my kitchen ceiling white, does that count?
